The birth of a child is a joyous occasion. I hope to experience this one day, but for now, I’m happy letting it happen to others. My own secretary had her first child recently, and I hired a company secretary in Singapore to fill in for her while she was being with her child. I headed to the hospital to see the secretary with her new born baby and it was one of the cutest things that I had ever seen. He was so little and was eager to see the world. Everyone else from the office came to see her too, and we all gave her some flowers to congratulate her. She was happy to see us and thanked us for coming.
Back at the office, the new secretary was able to get things done just as well as the other secretary. I liked that the office was able to function as if nothing had happened, because we were in the middle of a busy period and needed to have everyone firing on all cylinders to meet the demands of our customers. Usually when we have a high work load, people stay in the office after work for a little overtime. There have been times when I’ve stayed in the office until 10 at night so we could get things done. I’ve even done some work from home.
I expect the secretary who had her baby to be back in a few weeks, but I might keep the other secretary on along with her to get work done twice as fast. It would be good to have the office performing with a little more productivity because it would mean that everyone gets a bigger bonus at the end of the year, and everyone might not have to stay for overtime as much.
